With Christmas behind us and the New Years celebrations out of the way, we find ourselves looking in to the new year with our resolutions. One of the most common changes we all hope to make is to a healthier lifestyle, but it isn't the easiest one to stick to. So we have decided to give you a helping hand with some great ideas which are interesting, full of nutrients and great in taste.

No added sugar granola bars

Now you are back to work you will be rushing around and grabbing snacks on the go which can lead to breaking your well intended healthy lifestyle. We believe preparation is the key, so we have given you our recipe for 'No added sugar granola bars'. You can make them on the weekend and take one to work with you each day to ensure you stay away from the tuck shop.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup Medjool dates or pre soaked dates
2 cups porridge oats
1 cup ground almonds
¾ cup broken banana chips (not dried banana)
½ cup raisins
Handful of mixed seeds (eg sunflower, sesame, pumpkin, linseed)
1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
¾ cup coconut oil
½ cup of either honey, brown rice syrup or barley malt extract

Method:
1.Preheat the oven to 170C/150C fan /340F. Line a tin approximately 18x 30 cm with parchment paper.
2.In a saucepan gently melt the coconut oil with the syrup.
3.Chop the dates and combine with the remaining dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well, then stir in the melted syrup and coconut oil, until it's well combined.
4.Spoon into the prepared tin and press down firmly with the back of the spoon.
5.Bake for 35 minutes, until lightly golden.
6.Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 10 minutes before refrigerating them. Resist cutting until they have chilled. Otherwise you will be left with frustratingly messy affair!

No added sugar brownies

Brownies are a popular treat but are usually full of refined sugar so if you are looking for a healthier alternative why not pop in to grab a slice of our 'sweet potato brownies. These are delicious, moist and fudgey with a natural sweetness from dates and sweet potatoes, no refined sugar at all! As an added bonus they are also gluten free and vegan.
